Have Fun With a Mini Topic!

With Michele Bresso, Susan Jones and Jennifer Miller

Saturday, March 13, 4:00 p.m. Eastern

Three creative collectors will show how they formed interesting and fun small collections on unusual topics. Get your creativity flowing with ideas from three short presentations followed by discussion of mini-topics participants enjoy.

Michele Bresso, who will show us a collection based on a tongue-in-cheek suggestion that became a reality: Guinea Pigs on stamps. Michele is a college professor of communication who collects US and Pitcairn Island stamps as well as a variety of topics including Maine Coon cats, women’s fencing in the 1984 Olympics, tigers, the Calgary Stampede. Her most active topical collection is typewriters on stamps, around which she is building an exhibit. She’s a member of Women Collectors, APS, the Cats on Stamps Study Unit, and the Knoxville Philatelic Society.

Susan Jones will show us how interesting it is to learn about both a topic and related stamps with her presentation on Maria Sibylla Merian: Artist, Scientist, Explorer. Susan is a retired geologist with eclectic collecting interests including the African coelacanth, medieval illuminated manuscripts and paleontology. An ATA board member, she exhibits competitively, and is president of the Spring Hill Stamp Club, West Dundee, Ill.

ATA executive director Jennifer Miller has had a love for Winnie the Pooh since she was a child. Join her as she shares her small smackerel of a topic. Although her primary topic is sheep, she also has several mini collections including potatoes, coffee, and teapots.
